Contemporary Acrobatics – Yotam Peled

A weekend dance acrobatics workshop with Yotam Peled
15-16 July 2017. 11am – 2pm

What are contemporary acrobatics to me? Risk taking, tricking, breaking the form, implementing virtuosity in flow? Above all, being able to understand technique through physical experience, being
kind to your body and at the same time pushing it, exploring the maximum but using the minimum necessary.

In this workshop we will learn and practice key elements in my research and way of moving today:
going in and out, and moving efficiently on the floor. Jump, slide, spiral, gather, release will all become part of our common vocabulary. We will find ways to approach difficult movement with ease, with proper tools to make our energy soft and effective. We will play with different dynamics and qualities. We will learn tricks inspired by different practices of acrobatics and martial arts, as well as experiencing highly physical partner work.

This workshop is designed for both beginner and advanced movers, giving tasks and movement material to challenge each participant. Classes will go through active floor warm up, movement phrases, “trick” learning, body conditioning, repertoire & creative tasks, and partner work. The material is a research inspired by many teachers from the world of Capoeira, contemporary dance
and circus training.
