The trapeze lab is a 15h workshop for trapezists who are aiming to extend their movement vocabulary as well as exploring new ways to express themselves in the air providing them with tools and techniques to enhance their artistic output.

We will work on expanding our repertoire on the trapeze, this will involve mastering a diverse array of movements. Expect dynamic tricks on ropes and bar, as well as movements drawn from Marta’s research.

Through a fusion of technical exploration and creative experimentation we will try to create our own material, to redefine our aerial vocabulary. We’ll closely examine the materials we already possess, approaching them from various angles and perspectives. We will analyze them, understand them, break them down and create something new out of it. We will also talk about how to create using different tools that Marta has been working with that aims to help the artists to organize their knowledge and creation process.

During the laboratory there will also be discussions, so it is recommended to bring a notebook. We will talk about different topics and some interesting thoughts might come up.

The workshop is open for all levels, you don’t need to be a trapeze master, but a previous aerial experience will help you to understand the movements better. Price: 190€ Early Bird (until 15.08.) 203€ regular 218€ at the door

Marta Matovelle

Circus performer, creator, teacher, clown (but sometimes), reader, writer and researcher. She likes to look at the same thing from different angles and to bring some fun to the encounters.

Art historian turned circus performer and mover, initially trained in Valencia, and continuing her personal movement research in Budapest. Co-founder of the collectives One Thousand Faces and La Prima and recently embarked on a solo project set for a residency at La Voliere in France. Creator of IMPROLAB, an improvised circus performance performed several times in Budapest. She has collaborated with the Hungarian companies Firebirds and Living Picture, and with the French director Albin Warette.

From 2020 onwards, she is teaching group and private lessons in Budapest and trapeze workshops across different European cities. Her teaching approach places significant emphasis on the plasticity of movement and the exploration of the different possibilities and forms of the trapeze. She also brings to the aerial practice my interest in the other art forms such as plastic arts and architecture from the XX century, theater, physical theater, clown, dance and music.
